Task 1

Task 1: How you have applied processes and skills safely & appropriately. Risk assessment, Location recce and paragraph about how they are helpful.

Task 1: A critical comparison of a range of communication methods used to convey meaning in creative media production. - 700 words min.
When watching adverts you always wonder what the strategies are in the videos, the three techniques are called Pathos, Logos and Ethos which each have different meanings makes each advert more interesting to watch when it shows up on their television screens. Mostly they are called the modes of persuasion.

They persuade the audience in a way to listen to what the advert is about. When a advert has a certain way of showing pity or sorrow it is Pathos which usually means the video is about a real situation with either a person, animal or object in a sad way.
If for instance an advert had facts that supported a product with evidence this would mean it is Logos because its persuading the audience to either use the product because it's good or not because of the evidence they show in these adverts.

In my point of view Ethos is the highly used persuasion because of who they use in their adverts like mostly celebrities that's what makes people watch the advert and enjoy the product more. It actually goes with the real meaning of Ethos, providing a understanding the importance of having a certain speaker to persuade and connect with audience.
I had the chance of analysing a few adverts myself, I found one advert for each strategy.

The first on for Pathos is a Nike Advert called Henry's house, the setting for the video clearly shown in the title also means that it is around that person's house. You can also feel how energetic the video is with the music going on while he is running around the house kicking a ball. It makes you wanna go out and kick a ball around so the persuading strategy really works.

For a advert that has logos I had found a colgate toothpaste ad that showed three women commenting on how much the toothpaste had changed their teeth with very strange comments but it is there to be supporting evidence and also the dentist gives some interesting facts to persuade the audience to make them understand that it is a good product.

The Jennifer Aniston advert for Emirate Airlines was a clever way to persuade the audience to use that certain airline, seeing how the celebrity enjoys the airline no matter which seat she sits in it shows both sides of the plane from Economy to normal it makes people wanna enjoy it just like she did. I like the friendship she evolves with the little boy and making the mum very happy it has humour in it also.

That's what makes every advert different.

Where is your location & why?

I will be using the studio & control booth in the college because the setting for my advert needs a white sheet background that can be found in the studio and with the help of all the lights.

The control booth helps a lot with figuring out the lights whether to turn them up or down, also we used the control booth to record some behind the scene shots that will be shown in one of my tasks.

Location Permission

Location has been accepted to use by both Julian and Jake which I will be asking them to help with the struggles of filming with either a dead camera needing a new battery or with entering the studio in the mornings and after breaks are taken.

Transport

The studio is right next door to Julian's media room where everything happens.

Audio

Nobody has to be quiet in the studio its just a free area to have some music playing in the background so that the cast can be able the dance for my video. The videos will be blocked out by music anyways when edited.

Camera

The camera and tripod I will gather from the kit room and will be put back when finished with it ready to be picked up the next day to shoot day 2.

Food & Drink

No food or drink allowed around any of the equipment in the studio and control booth. But people can leave for breaks and go down to the little café in reception.

Emergency

Emergency procedures can be shown on the wall and I know how to control the crew to lead them to a safe evacuation area.

Having a Risk assessment & Location recce is very important because you don't want to be stuck in any situation where equipment is either damaged or somebody got injured you have to be able to have permission before doing anything that can get you into serious damaging cost and etc.

After Effect's One Lamp jumping

Julian showed us on Adobe After Effects how to move a certain object from one place to another and bending it in different ways.
Using a PNG picture of a lamp trying to do the effect just like the Pixar lamp. It was very clever way to learn how they do these type of effects for any video on the internet.
Location Recce
Editing to the Beat

We were given a bunch of clips from a old music video and given three audio files. We then had to pick out certain clips from any video then to edit them to the beat of the song chosen.

It was a fun experience to learn how to use Premiere Pro for the first time and see what I can do for a first video I have ever edited on that software.
After effects Multiple Lamps jumping

After learning how to do one lamp jumping in After Effects we added multiple lamps in different places on the screen and set them up to go in the same direction.

My edit came up to 7 compositions with the lamp. The highest somebody got to was around 10 which is a lot to see on one screen.
Panning words Effect

Learning how to use the camera tracker to add words following onto the panning sky was fun I got to see how it is made for any kind of video you see on the internet not even just for adverts. .
