Evaluation

What were you thinking and feeling?

What was good and bad about the experiment?

What sense can you make of the situation?

What else could you have done?

There wasn't a certain theme picked for the project it was all up to what kind of client we found to the kind of music they had which lets us choose what kind of theme we would see us making a music video of, the research we made at the start showed us the different theme of music videos like for instance, a live performance video which I would say looking back at the conversation we had with the band they would have enjoyed a live performance video since we did want them to originally be in the video but we didn't have a good timetable to be able to work with them so we had to go our own way to make the video without them.

Whilst watching a few music videos when researching for our first essay it helped us develop some ideas for making our own music video. Since I was first put in a group with two other people we had struggled to find a idea of what style the music video would be since listening to the song we were given by the artist. I wasn't expecting the ideas to change so much during the pre production but I'm glad that we got it done in the end. I tried finding as much research as I could by searching up tons of music videos and analysing the type of music video they are and the different camera shots/angles to get a idea more of what I could do for my music video.

I guess you could say what inspired me a lot for this project was watching a lot of music videos because I am a big fan of music so watching the artists making these amazing videos out of there songs showing either the meaning or not even anywhere near what the music is about it just made me feel like It was gonna be a good project to end up doing at college. The techniques and skills that I soon developed during this project I would say is learning more of the camera techniques for the music video.  We had many materials for many of the ideas we had for our music video, the first idea was the use of materials in the studio and then also the use of products in Tescos superstore, The use of two cars were used for the music video in the end with materials like skateboards/penny boards.

The way I have used the codes and conventions are with many ways. Technical techniques with the way camera angles are used, the different types of movements in the many shots we took. The pace and the style of editing we had made for the video was one of the technical techniques that were used very well in the production. Whilst watching the music video you would notice a lot of symbolic techniques in the way people make facial expressions, or the way they make some small gestures and poses. It would have been a fun experience to be able to use the codes and conventions of Mis on Scene with the use of props, lighting, and many use of costumes, hair and makeup but we didn't really have that type of music video only the use of location and setting was used for our music video.

Our style of music video ended up being a mixture of narrative and conceptual, it has some meaning to the song in some clips. We wanted to get the message out of how the song has a meaning of the summer days where we went out on a road trip and filmed some shots in the car and went to a nice location that filmed some b-roll shots for our video. We were very successful at showing the adventures of the friends on a road trip and the meaning of the song in one but I still feel like it wasn't a very successful type of music video it may look like we just put a bunch of clips together but we did have a idea of what to do.

There were many things I would change but know at this point I can't because it means the whole video would change, I would have made my group be able to agree on one idea and make sure to plan very well and not let the negative side get to us which we did let it happen a few times which is why we changed our idea so much. We have yet to hear back from the artist about what they think about the video we made them.

In a personal area of the project I would say we did work well but I only got put into the group near the end of the music video with only helping figure out the idea of the music video and then also the production for filming. If we gathered together and researched more about what we could have done for the video we maybe would have got more done and if we went with a proper schedule we would have been able to work together more with the band.

We didn't really have different jobs specifically given to each person in the group it was more all together which I wish we could have changed cause I felt that at times we didn't really agree a lot on the same Idea. I feel that if we had a set director that could have just set up the schedule in a way that we can work from it and not have to all agree on one idea, obviously have other people in the group have other jobs like the responsibility for the camera work and editing, which I had part of the role making sure some shots we taken on the camera although Joao did have a camera on him at the time. Paige helped us contact the client and our schedule for the music video and how we had to let them know we didn't have time for the band to be in our final music video.

The challenge for me was moving from one group that seemed to not really know what to do with paper work and wasn't much communication going on to a group that had easily done the Pre Production but still wasn't clear on the idea for the video which I helped find since being the car provider that we used in our video, My role helped us get to the locations we experimented on for the many music video ideas we had.

Since we could not work with the band for the music video we feel a next step for either one of us would be to figure out away to meet them and be able to shoot one for them in our own time or even maybe for our final project which I'm still unsure about what I would want to do but its a good idea since we would know what would go well and not because of how we experimented from this previous music video. A goal I would set for myself is to be able to push the group to do more towards our production, make sure to have all the pre-production ready before we start the process of production so we don't get caught up in not being able to know our ideas well enough and to notice the risks we would come to have dealt with since we just went ahead with our locations for the video as it was a rush to get it finished in the last week.

From the feedback we have gotten back from the peers in our college class they say that they enjoyed how much of an adventure video it is and gives a fun vibe to the song which we were hoping people would appreciate a lot during this project. I feel that the band would love the video but would have a different idea set for the music video as I feel they are a band that enjoys their music to be live which would have been our original idea in the first place except we had some difficulties

This project was a good experimentation to see what all our skills are when it come to filming these type of videos with also contacting  clients to make something amazing. I had a fun time making this video for this project even though through the stress of working in a group I'm glad we got a video made in the end that I don't regret making.
